Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested on Sunday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, it has been reported.

Armstrong, 56, is accused of hitting a woman with a gun and threatening to shoot her, the Dallas Police Department and law enforcement sources told WFAA.

Armstrong’s bond was set at $35,000, which he is reported to have posted.

The coach was booked into jail before 7:30am on Saturday, according to records, after police responded to a call at a home at 3:45am

In a statement to WFAA, the Mavericks said they were ‘aware of an incident involving a member of our staff’ and ‘gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident. 

‘We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.’

A former NBA player with the Mavs, Magic, Hornets, Nets and Pacers, Armstrong has been with Dallas as a coach since 2009.

As a player, he picked up the Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards during the 1998-99 season while playing with the Magic. 

Armstrong last played in the 2007-08 season for the Nets before transitioning to coaching.
