Damar Hamlin continued his miraculous NFL comeback this week when he extended his stay in Buffalo.

The safety, who suffered an on-field cardiac arrest in January 2023, agreed a one-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills, the franchise announced Wednesday.

The deal comes just over two years after the 26-year-old collapsed during the Bills’ Week 17 regular-season game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, 2023.

Hamlin made an incredible return to the field later that year after being medically cleared in April 2023.

He played his first snap since the terrifying ordeal in the Bills’ preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders in August 2023 before suiting up for the first time in the regular season two months later.

Serving as a backup, Hamlin played five games through the 2023 season as he worked his way back.

Following the departures of veterans Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde last offseason, Hamlin earned the starting role.

Originally a sixth-round pick by the Bills in 2021 NFL draft out of Pittsburgh, he started 14 games and did enough to keep the job.

He finished third on the team in total tackles (89) and tied for the team lead in interceptions (2).

He played a pivotal role in the Bills’ offseason, forcing a fumble on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson that led to a Buffalo touchdown.

Hamlin’s impact has reached far beyond the field with the safety to spread heart health awareness through the knowledge and use of CPR and AEDs, including through new legislation and CPR tours.

His Chasing M’s Foundation also raised millions through a GoFundMe page in the wake of his cardiac arrest.
