A daredevil who was filmed climbing a 60-storey skyscraper in Melbourne without a harness cheekily replied ‘because I can’ when asked why he attempted the dangerous stunt.
The French national known as Anthony, 29, was filmed scaling the building on the corner of Elizabeth and A’Beckett street in the city’s centre shortly after 8am on Tuesday.
His friend, Lucas Uzzo, 25, who was filming the climb from the street, said Anthony had no harness or parachute, and had scaled skyscrapers across the world.
The climber was arrested by police and marched out of the building in handcuffs at around 9am.
He is expected to be charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, common law public nuisance and without lawful excuse enter private property.

Mr Uzzu was arrested in Box Hill at about 10.45am and is expected to be charged with the same offences.
Both men will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
No one was injured during the incident.
A spokesperson for Victoria Police said: ‘It is understood a man was climbing a building with no safety equipment on A’Beckett Street about 7.30am.
‘Police located the 29-year-old Newry man at the top of the building about 8.20am and escorted him down safely.’
Mr Uzzo described his friend as a ‘French Spider-Man’, and told reporters he pulled off the stunt for ‘personal accomplishment and adrenaline’ only.
Tuesday was Anthony’s last day in Australia.
