Darren Bent insists Tottenham should ‘go all out’ to sign Chelsea’s star Romelu Lukaku

Darren Bent insists Tottenham should ‘go all out’ to sign Chelsea’s £97million star Romelu Lukaku, if Harry Kane is to leave… but says if boss Antonio Conte stays that the England talisman will not ‘go anywhere’

  • Darren Bent has urged Tottenham to sign Romelu Lukaku if Harry Kane departs
  • The striker has endured a torrid time since his £97million move back to the Blues
  • The Belgium has scored 12 times, but only five in the Premier League this season

Former striker Darren Bent has urged his former club Tottenham to sign Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku if they are to lose England star Harry Kane this summer.

The Belgium international has endured a torrid return to Stamford Bridge since he returned in the summer for £97million from Inter Milan.

The Blues were hoping Lukaku could take them to the next level after notching 30 goals in all competitions for Inter last season.

The 28-year-old has notched 12 goals in all competitions this campaign, but only five of those coming in the Premier League, and it appears that is now very much falling down the pecking order with both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner finding form.

The striker has already been linked with a move away this summer with French giants PSG reportedly keen.

Spurs, however, are currently thriving under new boss Antonio Conte as they battle it out for the final Champions League spot, and rumours of Kane departing have all but settled.

The England international was pushing for a move away last summer in order to play Champions League and win trophies – therefore if Conte stays in north London and secures a top finish it seems unlikely he will depart.

But if for some reason, he does choose to leave, Bent has insisted there is no better replacement than Lukaku.

‘As long as Antonio Conte’s there, I don’t think Harry Kane would go anywhere,’ Bent told TalkSport.

‘But if worse came to worse and Harry Kane did leave, and go elsewhere, if they can get Lukaku, you’ve seen what Conte can get out of Romelu Lukaku.

‘Even down to his nutrition, because that was the best I’ve ever seen him look, last season and at the start of this season.

‘If there was an opportunity and Kane leaves and Conte can get Lukaku, I’d go out all day to get it, all day.

‘I think as someone who has plenty of Premier League experience, there’d be no one better to replace Harry Kane.

‘I know they’re completely different in terms of players, Harry Kane dropping in and [is] technically a better footballer, but Lukaku would be an adequate replacement, certainly with what he did with Conte already.

‘So, I would.’
