A man is dead following the crash of a ultra-light aircraft in south-east Darwin on Sunday.

The plane crashed along Jenkins Road, Weddell, about 37km, south-east of the Northern Territory capital near the Darwin Flight Training school.

The man was the only passenger of the plane, according to Nine News.

A Recreational Aviation Australia spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia it is  investigating and will have their full team on site tomorrow.

The Darwin man is believed to be associated with the Top End flying club. 

A crime scene examiner is on the scene.  

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Northern Territory Police for comment.
