Major Australian city rocked by magnitude 6.2 earthquake
Darwin has been rocked by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake in the Banda Sea.
No reports of damage have been made in Australia or nearby Timor Leste.
The magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred at about 1:30am local time.
The tremors were felt by more than 500 residents in Darwin.
‘Wow! That earthquake was as big as some we had in NZ. Didn’t expect to be shaken awake in Darwin,’ wrote Jessa Rogers.
Georgie Dickson said: ‘Rise and shine AGAIN Darwin. Woken by what can only assumed to be tremors from an earthquake.’
‘We just had another little tremor. Bot diff this 1. 1 big shake – fet like someone bumped my char, then 30 seconds of tiny waves. Big roar in the distance after it too.’
‘There was just a very mild one that shook the bed for a few seconds, but no other evidence like rattling windows. It woke everyone up, though. Woo–it’s my first earthquake I didn’t sleep through!’
More to come.
