Dave Hughes sets record straight $3 million The Block buy

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has hit out at reports he was upset at the $3 million he paid for The Block’s Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles’s home.

The comedian said he believes the expensive house purchase was a ‘good decision,’ after confirming reports the bank ‘valued it less’ than what he paid for it.

Speaking to Mamamia on Monday, the media personality was candid about his purchase adding he wanted to set the record straight.

‘As long as no one sets it on fire… It’s fine’: Comedian Dave Hughes has set the record-straight about his hefty $3 million The Block purchase.  It was reported the Channel Ten star was ‘annoyed’ but he told MammaMia on Monday that he’s been ‘misquoted’ a number of times

‘There’s been a couple of misquotes saying that I’ve paid too much,’ he said.

‘I don’t believe I paid too much, I believe in the long run I will have made a good decision.’

In the revealing conversation, the Channel Ten star then admitted the bank had in fact undervalued the five bedroom, East Melbourne property.

‘The bank has valued it as less than, but that’s what banks do, they’re just being conservative,’ the 47-year-old said.

Despite regularly playing to sellout crowds, it appeared the comedian and his wife Holly were a baffled by the intense interest surrounding their new home.

‘As long as people continue to rent it out and no one sets it on fire… It’s fine’ he said in his trademark style of humour.

However, it comes after the Channel Ten funnyman told Stellar magazine earlier this month he was ‘annoyed,’ at his purchase of the lavish property.

‘I went to get a bank loan the other day and they haven’t valued it the same as I paid for it, which is fine, but annoying because there were five bidders,’ he told the publication.

Although not disclosing how vast the difference in price was, he said it was enough to leave him frustrated.

‘Enough less that it made me annoyed. For fu*k’s sake… I just think it’s good value and in a few years time people are going to be going, ‘Well, fu*k, didn’t he do well with it!’ I am playing the long game, all right? That is what I say to my wife anyway,’ he continued.

Although failing to divulge how much the weekly rent was, experts have estimated it could be going for $2,500 to $3,000 a week.

During the television show auction, Hughesy scooped up the house with a $2.62 million reserve for an extra $447,000.

And it seems as though his wife Holly was quick to see the property was no steal.

‘It’s not a bargain,’ she said on his KIIS FM drive show last year, adding that their eight-year-old son Rafferty was also hassled at school about the purchase, and felt as though his dad was ‘showing off’.
