David and Candice Warner’s Maroubra construction site still lies in ruins

It has been more than 1.5 years since embattled cricket couple David and Candice Warner purchased a block of blue ribbon land in Sydney’s affluent suburb of Maroubra.

And it seems the glamorous couple still have a long way to go before their dream mansion is complete, with new images of the property indicating that little progress has been made to the knockdown rebuild.

Last Friday, David and Candice’s building site was pictured looking more like a demolition zone, with piles of rubble and dirt dominating the steep cliff-side landscape.

Has someone dropped the ball? It has been more than 1.5 years since embattled cricket couple David and Candice Warner purchased a block of blue ribbon land in Sydney's affluent suburb of Maroubra- and it seems the glamorous couple still have a long way to go

The Warners, who purchased the block of land for $4m in 2016, previously demolished the property’s existing home but have barely started building their five-storey mansion.

Instead, only bare bones of construction scaffolding appear to have been laid down on the 900sqm property.

The site itself has been boarded off from the general public with barricades emblazoned with the logo of luxury construction company Mardini Constructions.

The estimated build cost of the project is over $4.2 million.

According to a report published by News Corp in April, construction of the Warners’ property has ‘infuriated neighbours as the development has been so slow moving’.

One neighbour was quoted as saying: ‘Trucks have been coming and going for months, but then we don’t see anything for a couple of weeks. We expected this to be built by now — he bought the place ages ago and it’s not pretty to look at.’

‘I pity the neighbours who live right next door, as they’ve had to live next to a building site. If I were him, I’d make it extra secure, as I can’t see people welcoming him with open arms, even before all the recent drama,’ they continued.

Meanwhile, David has been keeping a low profile after he received a one-year ban from Cricket Australia due to his involvement in the cheating scandal that rocked the Third Test against South Africa in March.

Former captain Steve Smith and player Cameron Bancroft were also punished for their involvement, receiving 12-month and nine-month bans respectively.
