Australian cricketer David Warner has taken inspiration from retired British footballer David Beckham by wearing personalised shoes on the cricket pitch. 

Warner, 34, paid tribute to his wife Candice, 36, and their three daughters while playing in coronavirus-ravaged India.   

His devoted wife Candice shared a picture of the shoes on Instagram, alongside a sweet message for her man.

David’s shoes feature the names of Candice, or ‘Candy’ and their three daughters, Ivy, six, Indi, five, and Isla, one.  

‘No matter where in the world you are darling we are always with you,’ Candice captioned her Instagram post.

Other sports stars who have worn personalised shoes include retired footballer David Beckham, who once has his kid’s names embroidered onto his shoes. 

David, 45, who is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, previously had the names of his children put onto various pairs of soccer shoes.

As many as 9,000 Australians – including the country’s top cricket players – have been stranded in India by the government’s ban on flights from the Covid-ravaged nation until May 15. 

Prime Minster Scott Morrison suspended all direct commercial flights and chartered repatriation flights on Tuesday afternoon as India suffers a huge surge in cases and deaths.

Seventeen Australian cricket stars including test players David, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins are among the stranded.

In late March, David, Candice, and their three daughters enjoyed a farewell dinner in Sydney before he flew overseas. 

‘Dinner with my gorgeous girls before I leave and unfortunately Isla could not stay awake,’ David wrote.

In a post-match interview in January last year, David said he was almost certain his family is now complete.

‘I think we will speak to our wives first. I’ve got three kids – I hope that’s the last one,’ he confessed.
