Day, Scott well in contention at PGA Champ
Jason Day has clawed his way back into contention at the US PGA Championship after finishing his second round in Missouri.
With Day among the half of the field who failed to finish their second rounds on Friday due to dangerous weather, the former world No.1’s first shot of day three was a birdie putt he holed at the par-4 ninth at Bellerive Country Club.
Day, the 2015 US PGA Champion, picked up one more shot on the homeward stretch to post a two-under-par 68 and earn a five-under total on Saturday.
Day joins countryman Adam Scott on the same score, five shots back of leader Gary Woodland at 10 under, with fellow American Kevin Kisner one shot further back.
US Open champion Brooks Koepka is outright third at eight under.
Marc Leishman is next best of the Australians having finished at one under on Friday.
Queenslander Cameron Smith is still on the course and is fighting hard to make the projected cut of even par having picked up four shots on his round.
Australian club pro Criag Hocknull is set to miss the 36-hole cut having signed for a 73 to fall to five over.
The third round will get underway on Saturday afternoon with threesomes going off two tees.
