The Daytime Emmys is apologizing for bungling the in memoriam segment during Friday’s telecast.
The Young and the Restless actress Marguerite Ray, who died in 2020, was among those listed during the tribute but a photo of Veronica Redd – who is alive and well – was shown on screen.
In a series of tweets, the Daytime Emmys apologized for the ‘incorrect picture’ and said the organization regretted the accidental error.

‘During last night’s #DaytimeEmmys telecast, the In Memoriam segment included an incorrect picture in our remembrance of the late Y&R actress Marguerite Ray,’ the Daytime Emmys tweeted.
In most major award shows, the in memoriam segment usually ruffles feathers for invariably omitting one or two stars from the tribute however, mislabeling talent is more rare.
While the mistake aired on Friday during the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said it planned to correct the mistake in digital copies.

Mea culpla: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences released a lengthy apology for the accidental error
‘We deeply regret this error and intend to re-edit the sequence for subsequent digital releases once a replacement image can be appropriately licensed,’ the organization penned on social media.
Adding: ‘We sincerely apologize to the Ray family — as well as to Veronica Redd, whose image was inadvertently used instead. Each of these Daytime icons deserved better from our Academy.’
Marguerite Ray starred in television series like Sandford and Son and made history as Mamie Johnson, the first black character on Y&R, and had a 10-year run on the daytime soap opera from 1980-90.

After departing the show, Veronica Redd took over the role as Johnson for several seasons.
Ray died in Los Angeles on November 18, 2020 at the age of 89. Veronica Redd, 72, is currently alive.
