Manchester United’s David de Gea is demanding as much money as Real Madrid’s highest-earners if he is to join the Bernabeu side, according to reports in Spain.

The United goalkeeper has been a long-term target for the Spanish giants after a deadline day deal collapsed back in the summer of 2015.

Madrid are looking for a replacement for Keylor Navas and they remain very determined to bring in De Gea as they look to continue their dominance in Europe.

And according to Diario Gol, the 27-year-old wants to join the La Liga and Champions League holders but only if they pay him the same as the club’s top stars.

De Gea, who performed heroically as United overcame Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday in the Premier League, has requested 12million euros (£10.6m) a year, which matches that of Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos and is just below what Cristiano Ronaldo earns.

Meanwhile, De Gea will be rested for United’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side will qualify for the knock-out stage as long as they avoid defeat by seven goals this evening. Meanwhile, a draw would be enough to top the group.
