A dog was found dead on the side of a road after it was tied to a tree with no shade or water.

Shanti Boekelman found the animal lying on the ground in the sweltering heat when he was driving through Bauple, on Queensland’s Fraser Coast on Thursday.

The dog had been tied to the tree with a rope less than one metre long and Mr Boekelman guessed it had been lying there for several days.

‘It had a terrible death,’ Mr Boekelman told The Courier Mail.

‘You’d think any animal would bite to free itself, but I reckon it was waiting for its owner.’

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty told Daily Mail Australia it was the second dog that had died of heat stress in the last week.

‘It’s just ridiculous. People seem to ignore the warnings, it’s just very frustrating,’ he said.

‘A dog can survive without food but with this heat if it can’t reach shade or water it’ll die.

‘It’s just infuriating and very distressing.’

Earlier this week another dog died in Logan, Brisbane after it was tied to a fence and unable to reach shade or water.

Last year, the RSPCA Queensland had more than 2000 calls of dogs being left in places with no shade or water.

Mr Beatty said the RSPCA was investigating.
