Deaf Liverpool girl screams with joy over new sibling

This is the adorable moment a deaf little girl discovers she’s going to be a big sister.

The home-shot video shows Lucy Gray squealing with excitement when she is told she’s getting a new little brother or sister.

Her parents were worried that the message that they were expecting would get lost in translation as neither are native users of sign language, reports Mirror Online.

Eight-year-old Lucy has been deaf since she was two and mum, Lyndsay Hignett, from Knotty Ash, Liverpool, said that it can sometimes be hard to communicate with the young girl.

Mum and stepdad, Paul Rowland, learnt sign language but still struggle sometimes to explain messages.

Paul, a sales advertiser, who filmed the video, said: ‘I was holding back tears, it was lovely to see.

‘We were worried when she didn’t understand at first, that she’d say ‘no no no’ even though she loves babies.

‘But you can see in her expression, she was absolutely amazed. Lucy is generous, caring and naturally really lovely. She will make a great big sister.’

Captured in the video, Lucy is asked by her mum what her baby doll is, and then what she herself is, replying ‘Babba’.

Mum Lyndsey was quick to reply that it was not Lucy but in fact a new baby.

Lyndsey then uses her hands to illustrate a widening stomach, to which Lucy asks if her Grandmother is expecting another child.

The perplexed eight-year-old is then told how her mum will soon have two babbas, Lucy and the new arrival.
