Dear Santa…How Australia Post makes sure every child gets their letter from Father Christmas

  • It’s an age old question: how does Santa reply to his thousands of letters
  • Australia Post said it’s a feat only achieved with military-style organisation
  •  This year the service is sending children a personally postcard responses

It’s an age old question: how does the big, bearded man dressed in red reply to the countless children who write to him in the hope of landing on his good list?

Apparently the feat is only achieved with military-style organisation according Australia Post – who have handled over 150,000 letters to and from Santa Claus.

The daunting task of letter sorting is undertaken at central locations where each child’s letter is read and sorted before the return address is double-checked.

Australia Post has answered an age old question: how does the big, bearded man dressed in red reply to the countless children who write to him in the hope of landing on his good list

‘Letter writing to Santa is still a very popular tradition in many households,’ Australia Post spokeswoman Michelle Skehan said.

This year the service is helping Santa Claus respond to the thousands of letters he receives from Australian children – by sending out a personally addressed postcard response.

‘Thanks for sending your letter when you did, Mrs Claus and I read your letter this morning while we ate breakfast,’ Santa wrote.

‘The North Pole is very hard to find, and I worry my friends will get lost on their way here!’

Within the letter, Santa also detailed his love of the Great Barrier Reef and his appreciation for Australia’s balmy Christmases.

‘I hope you’ll write to me again next year,’ Santa wrote.

‘We’re looking forward to hearing about all the fun things you get up to in 2019.’

Each child who mailed their carefully curated letter to Santa by December 14 will receive a response Christmas Day – all thanks to Australia Post.
