Death threat is made against UFC champion Conor McGregor

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Conor McGregor, 29, punched a relation of a gangland figure in a pub brawl on Sunday night.

It is reported McGregor, 29, hit the relative of Graham ‘The Wig’ Whelan who is a senior member of the feared Kinahan drugs cartel.

The Kinahan mob are believed to be the biggest importers of cocaine in Ireland and have been involved in a vicious feud with members of the rival Hutch gang, which has so far claimed 11 lives.

Members of the Crumlin-based Kinahan mob have also been engaged in a separate feud involving another gang in Drimnagh which has claimed a further 16 lives.

Whelan’s best friend David Byrne was murdered by members of the Hutch gang in an attack on the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February 2016.

Members of the gang dressed up as women and as gardai in a bid to kill Daniel Kinahan, son of the cartel’s boss Christy ‘The Dapper Don’ Kinahan.

McGregor, who is from Crumlin in south Dublin grew up on the same streets as many of the Kinahan crime gang and would have known them at school.

According to reports on social media, McGregor punched The Wig’s relative over an assault of a young man from Crumlin who was hit by a member of the gang.

It has now been reported that the Kinahan cartel have demanded €900,000 from McGregor in protection money or they will murder him.

However, the Hutch gang is believed to have previously paid €250,000 to the Kinahans in order to lift a hit on Gary Hutch, who was eventually murdered in Spain in September 2015.

Kinahan, 60, who is believed to be in Dubai, has left the day-to-day running of the gang to his son, Daniel.

Kinahan left Ireland in 2001 after serving a jail term in the top security Portlaoise Prison for drugs offences.

He first relocated to the south of Spain where he grew his international criminal cartel.

In total, the feud has so far claimed 11 lives including two civilians without any connection to either side of the dispute.

Gardai have not received any formal notification about the incident in the pub on Sunday night.

McGregor is due to appear in Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning on a completely unrelated matter.

The fighter is accused of speeding on the Naas Road, in Rathcoole on March 31.

The case has been adjourned twice already.

MailOnline has approached McGregor’s representatives for a comment.
