The family of a grandmother found dead alongside her partner at their $2.2million home are grieving tonight after police confirmed the two deaths were a murder-suicide.

Marilyn Burdon, 70, and her male partner, 69, were found dead in separate rooms of their luxury house in Kew, Melbourne, on Monday night.

Homicide detectives have now told 7 News that the deaths were a tragic murder-suicide, leaving Ms Burdon’s loved ones heartbroken. 

Police told the network that Ms Burdon was killed by the man she loved.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our mother in the company of a person who she considered a friend,’ they family said in a statement.

‘She was a beautiful mother and grandmother who loved her family passionately. She enjoyed all manner of pursuits and interests and always liked to have fun,’ they said.

It is not clear how the couple died, although unconfirmed reports said a gun was found at the property. 

Real estate data reveals that the couple bought the home on Princess Street in Kew in 2004 for $680,000 – although the home is now worth an estimated $2.2 million.

Forensic crews arrived at the four-bedroom home on Monday night and dozens of officers were seen searching a Lotus Esprit, Lotus Elan and black BMW convertible parked in the driveway.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia they were not searching for any third parties in connection with the deaths.

A woman with two young children was seen being escorted from the property on Monday evening, The Age reported.  

Neighbours described the couple as ‘quite reserved’ and said they hardly ever saw them. They said the man did not appear to be in good health.

‘They kept to themselves,’ one neighbour told news.com.au.

Officers were also seen searching a car boot with the help of a torch.
