Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders delivered a brutally honest assessment of his team’s performance in their 42-6 blowout loss to the Oregon Ducks.
‘We played like hot garbage,’ Sanders said. ‘Good old-fashioned butt kicking. No excuses.’
Sanders and the Buffaloes had been riding a wave of hype and good fortune after winning their first three games of the season, before running into the first genuine contender on their schedule this season.
Before the game Oregon’s mascot trolled Sanders, while head coach Dan Lanning gave an ironic yet passionate pregame speech that went viral before the demolition of the Buffaloes was even completed.
‘We expect to do well,’ Sanders said. ‘We just didn’t do it today, but [the loss] wasn’t something that was needed.’
Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders said his team played like ‘hot garbage’ in Oregon
Sanders and the Buffaloes were absolutely demolished by Oregon in a 42-6 one-sided blowout
Oregon also recorded more than 500 yards of offense in the game and led 35-0 at halftime
While the loss may not have been ‘needed’, it certainly brought the sky-high Buffaloes back to earth after they were thoroughly outplayed in every facet of game.
Colorado gave up 518 total yards – 284 passing, 234 rushing – while also failing to gain 200 yards on the offensive end.
Sanders also addressed the ironic shade thrown at him by Lanning during the Ducks head coach’s pregame speech.
‘I don’t say stuff just to say it for a click, contrary to what somebody said,’ Deion Sanders said. ‘Our confidence offends their insecurity. It is what it is. I signed up for it.’
He also shed some light on what he told his team in the locker room following the dreadful performance.
‘Get your butt up and let’s go,’ Sanders said he told his team.
‘We ain’t got time to have a pity party. Ain’t nobody walking around the locker room with napkins and tissues. We got some work to do. I can see the future, and it looks really good.’
