Denise Welch shuts down trolls who give her ‘flack’ for posing in swimsuits at 64

She often shows off her incredible figure via social media.

And Denise Welch has admitted that she has been barraged with hate for posting unfiltered snaps in her swimwear online.

The Loose Women panellist, 64, has shut down online trolls who leave nasty comments for the sultry snaps as she breaks the mould.

Brushing off the backlash, the star explained that she does it to empower other women who may lack the confidence to to the same.

Appearing on pal Kaye Adams’ How To Be 60 podcast, Denise spoke candidly about feeling comfortable in her own skin and embracing ageing. 

‘If anybody says that I help to empower women then that’s a badge I’ll wear.

‘I get so much flack for still posing in swimsuits at 64 but I don’t care because if one person says “I was feeling really low on myself and I saw you in a swimsuit and you’re in your sixties..”

‘And you know, I don’t filter them – partly because I don’t know how to,’ she explained.

Denise went on to add that she was the ‘poster girl’ for it never being too late to do anything as she recalled having her second child, Louise Vincent, at age 42.

While she also looked back at meeting husband Lincoln Townley later in life, dubbing him the ‘love of my life’.

The TV personality is often open about her turbulent life and 30-year battle with mental health, and recently spoke on suffering postnatal depression following the birth of her first son, Matt Healy. 

Denise admitted she was upset recently by a US news story about a woman suffering with puerperal psychosis and postnatal depression. 

Puerperal psychosis or postpartum psychosis is a serious mental health illness that can affect someone soon after having a baby and affects around 1 in 500 mothers after giving birth. 

She said: ‘I get so much flack for still posing in swimsuits at 64 but I don’t care because if one person says “I was feeling really low on myself and I saw you in a swimsuit and you’re in your sixties..”

Denise discussed on her podcast the ‘huge impact postnatal depression had on her life after having oldest son Matt’, who is now aged 33.

In a clip shared to Twitter, she said: ‘I was really upset by a US story about a lady who took the lives of her three children who was suffering with puerperal psychosis and postnatal depression.

‘I’ve been speaking out for over 30 years now since I had Matty of the origin of my major depressive disorder which is postnatal depression.

‘We don’t talk enough about it and about postnatal psychosis. I over the years have spoke to thousands of woman and the psychosis side of it is absolutely horrendous because people completely lose their minds. 

‘I’m not justifying anything. I’m just saying I think its approach for me to tell you my journey of my horrors and experiences with postnatal depression and I do touch on puerperal psychosis.’ 

The former Coronation Street star shares sons 1975 star Matt and actor Louis, 21, with ex-husband and Benidorm star Tom Healy.
