Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederick surfs in Sydney

Royals are usually known for their elegance, grace and poise while stepping out in public.

But Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik appeared a little off-balance last week, when he lost his footing while surfing in Sydney.

The prince wiped out on a wave at Palm Beach, with the 49-year-old father making a large splash as he hit the water.

Wipeout! Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederick makes a splash while surfing solo at Sydney’s Palm Beach while on holiday with Princess Mary and their four children

Prince Frederick, Australian-born Princess Mary and their four children have been enjoying a summer vacation in Mary’s native country over the festive season.

Sydney’s Palm Beach – affectionately known as ‘Palmy’ – is an iconic site located to the north of the city.

It is famously known as the set for the popular Australian soap, Home & Away.

Protecting his European skin from the harsh rays, Prince Frederik wore a long-sleeved rash vest.

He was spotted patiently waiting on his surf board as he anticipated his next wave.

Despite being dunked by the large swell, the prince appeared in high spirits as his princess wife and children, TRH Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, are believed to have been watching on from the shoreline.

While Mary has been pictured in the past with a surfboard, she didn’t appear to join her husband in the water for a surf.

Leaving the water for dry land, Prince Frederick carried his surfboard securely under his right arm.

The royal’s stripe and floral-printed boardshorts appeared to have ridden up during his time in the water, with Prince Frederick tugging at the swim shorts to fix their position.

The fit father-of-four has maintained his fitness efforts while on holiday, having been pictured running on the beach with wife Mary earlier this month.

Princess Mary, 45, who is originally from Tasmania, wed Prince Frederick in 2004.
