A Florida sheriff’s deputy was terminated for slamming a teenage boys head into the ground during an arrest that spurred criminal charges for him and two other deputies.

Deputy Christopher Krickovich was fired by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday after staff concluded a review and disciplinary hearing for the case.

Sheriff Gregory Tony addressed Krickovich’s removal in a press conference on Wednesday.

‘He was terminated yesterday because we don’t have a policy in place that provides deputies the opportunity to slam people’s faces, head into the ground, especially under those circumstances,’ Tony said, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Tony clarified that there may come a time when such force is necessary, but it seems Krickovich’s confrontation with the 15-yer-old was not among them.

Krickovich is expected to fight  the termination.

This decision from Tony comes after the Professional Standards Committee recommended that Krickovich receive no disciplinary action for his actions after a unanimous vote.

Jeff Bell, president of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association, called the termination ‘appalling.’

‘When my deputies do the right thing, I will always support them and have their back. But I will not stand idly by while anyone violates his or her sworn duty to protect,’ Tony said in a press release.

‘Even a singular incident of excessive force by one of our deputies creates distrust between the community and our organization, and that is something I will not allow.’

Krichovich and Deputy Gregory LaCerra, who was also involved in the incident, were previously charged with misdemeanor battery charges and falsifying records.

It was believed that the two deputy’s attempted to falsify their police reports of the arrest to avoid any disciplinary action.

A third deputy, Ralph Mackey, was charged with falsifying records and conspiracy to falsify records.

The conflict between Krickovich and Delucca Rolle took place outside of a McDonald’s in Taramac, Florida, on April 18.

Reports say that around 200 teenagers were gathered around the fast food restaurant and deputies responded to the scene to maintain the unruly crowd.

The teenagers were reportedly at the McDonald’s to watch a fight between two boys.

At one point, deputies were arresting a young boy whose phone fell from his pocket while being pinned to the ground.

Rolle, who is a student at a nearby high school, reached for the cell phone and was quickly engaged with deputies at the scene who say he defied orders and was a potential threat.
