World Bikini Day was celebrated across Australia on Thursday by politicians and beach-goers alike.

But one Queensland MP has found himself in hot water after posing with two bikini-clad young tourists, and posting the photos on Facebook.

‘Did you get a good look?’ Queensland’s Deputy Premier Jackie Trad responded to Mackay and Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan.

‘You wouldn’t know it, but this lad is Jason Costigan – the LNP Member for Whitsunday,’ Ms Trad wrote to her Facebook page.

‘It’s 2018. He’s an elected official. He’s being paid by the taxpayer.

‘And yesterday he was out celebrating world bikini day by creeping on young, foreign tourists. Ugh.’

She followed up her critique with the line: ‘What a sleazebag’, accompanied by a vomiting emoji.

The response to Mr Costigan and Ms Trad’s post were mixed.

Many agreed with Ms Trad that the Whitsunday MP behaved inappropriately and in poor taste, with one person replying: ‘Yuck! So sleazy!’

Another person suggested: ‘Someone should tell him his leering at young women is not doing much for tourism.’

‘Wow. Pretty sure their eyes are a bit higher than that mate,’ another person wrote.

‘Run girls! Run!’ a more concerned woman replied.

Others supported Mr Costigan and countered that the girls did not appear uncomfortable, but rather, looked they were having fun.

‘Isn’t a bikini the standard dress up there?, one man asked.

Mr Costigan also replied, saying: ‘They [the girls] absolutely loved it.’

Some accused the Deputy Premier of cheap name-calling and engaging in ‘low grade politics’ by calling the member a ‘sleazebag’.

Mr Costigan posted a similar image on World Bikini Day last year without backlash.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and Mr Costigan for for comment.
