‘Why not make the choice to stay away from ingredients doctors have told us aren’t helpful to our health?,’ asked Teri, who trained at Le Cordon Blue and regularly shares her favourite recipes on her YouTube channel, Hatching Change.

‘Like sugar. Alcohol. Processed foods. I stay motivated to make good choices, concentrating on eating food that falls into the categories of vegetables, dark leafy greens, fruits, and protein and whole grains.’

Her commitment to health doesn’t stop there.

I meditate, I exercise,’ she continued. ‘I try to do all this regularly so my body can do things long into the future.’

Teri starts her day with an ‘ice cold shower’ after reading that Twitter founder Jack Dorsey credits the habit with providing ‘mental clarity’.

She said: ‘I started doing that and it really has been wonderful. I never realized an ice cold shower can really shift your mood.

Teri’s health secrets

The Los Angeles-based actress takes a well-rounded approach to her physical and mental well-being. She swears by:

  • Writing intentions in a journal each night
  • Early morning walks in the Hollywood hills
  • Ice cold showers to reset her mood
  • Whipping up fresh and healthy meals packed with vegetables and grains
  • Meditation to clear her mind
  • Staying fit with regular exercise

‘If you are having trouble with lethargy or depression, I’d try it, because it’s helping me. I stay in there until the temperature isn’t really bothering me anymore and I am breathing normally, then I get dressed and start my day.’

Teri, who appeared on the Great Celebrity Bake Off, also makes a habit of going hiking in the Hollywood hills and setting a list of intentions every night.

‘I’ve started keeping a journal at night,’ she explained. ‘I write my intentions for the next day. It always starts with “wake up”. Like I’m telling myself “you aren’t dying tonight”.

‘I’m gonna wake up, then… I make my list for what I want to accomplish. Then at the end on the day when I go to make the next day’s intentions I take note.

‘I check what I did and circle what got left off the list and reflect on why. It feels like it’s making me accountable for my choices and priorities.’

Teri has recently been named global ambassador for New Nordic Hair Volume and said she ‘already sees a difference’ in her locks in the six weeks since she started taking the brand’s Hair VolumeTM supplements – and believes it is ‘acting like a catalyst for healthy behaviour’.

She said: ‘I was thinking that within the mindfulness of remembering to take it once a day, I wonder if that positive behaviour is also trickling down to my other self care.

‘I guess what I mean is that the act of getting myself this supplement and taking it regularly every day is like a signal telling me to also eat well, sleep, and exercise.

She added: ‘The thing about supplements and specifically how this one might help your hair comes down to nutrition.

‘Even if you think you are getting what you need from your food, in case you aren’t NEW NORDIC provides the nutrients you need for good hair.’
