Desperate search underway for man and dog after boat capsized in Sydney’s north

A desperate search is underway for a man and a dog who went missing after a boat capsized in Sydney’s north.

The man and a dog described as being a large black and white Staffordshire, are missing after a boat capsized near Dobroyd Head at about 3am on Saturday.

A 25-year-old man was rescued from the water by locals at about 4.50am before being taken to Little Manly Beach where he raised the alarm about the missing pair.

The man told police the friends launched their vessel from Tunks Park boat ramp at Northbridge about 9pm on Friday before it capsized on Saturday morning.

An air, sea and land search is underway to locate the man and dog, and is being assisted by local police, Surf Life Saving NSW and the Westpac helicopter.

‘Police have been told there were no life jackets, lights, or safety equipment on board,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

A police helicopter has also been called in to help with the search.
