A former police detective is fighting for his life after he was shot in the face and left to die in a pool of his own blood.

Sid Morgan, 53, suffered serious head injuries after being shot in the forehead at the end of Spraypoint Drive in Point Cook in Melbourne’s west on Friday at about 11pm.

One neighbour said they saw three people arguing on the street minutes before the trigger was pulled.

Mr Morgan, who is now a real estate agent, was taken to the Royal Melbourne hospital where he remains in a critical condition, according to Acting Inspector Trish Duke.

Suhair Bdeiwe, another witness, heard the gun shot and ran to her balcony where she saw a white ute speeding away from the scene.

‘I saw a big white ute driving badly,’ she told 9News.

Security cameras captured a similar ute heading in the same direction as the one Ms Bdeiwe had witnessed.

Three white cars parked out the Point Cook home were each dusted for prints to see whether they could lead to persons of interest.

Police have not yet revealed the motive of the crime or how many suspects were involved.
