Detectives say body found near airfield in Hertfordshire is ‘linked’ to London stabbing

The death of a man whose body was found by the side of a country lane is being linked to the fatal stabbing of a man in his 30s in north London.

Officers were called to Hogg lane in Elstree, Hertfordshire, after the body was found with stab wounds at 3.38pm yesterday.

A man in his 30s was found with stab wounds in his car near Scratchwood Park, Barnet, at around 8.30pm on Thursday.

Police have made one arrest in relation to the stabbing in Barnet. The man remains in custody. 

It is being linked to the body of a man in his 30s 

In a statement, the MET police said the victim found in Hertfordshire had suffered stab injuries.

‘The death is being treated as linked to the murder of a man found with stab injuries in Scratchwood Park, Barnet, on December 19.’

The body was next to a private airfield, Elstree Aerodrome, and a large reservoir.

It is about a ten minute drive from Scratchwood Park to the place where the body was found. The force did not release any further information.

The man found in Barnet is believed to have been stabbed in Mill Hill, north London, before being found fatally wounded in a car at the park off the Barnet Bypass.

Scotland Yard said in a statement that police were called at 8:27pm to Barnet Bypass by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a man in his 20s with stab injuries, who was then taken to hospital.

It comes as the capital has been swept by a wave of bloodshed which has brought the number of killings to their highest level since 2008.  

Police searched a nearby car where they found another man in his 30s with stab wounds.  He was treated at the scene but died a short time later.

A crime scene has been put in place and inquiries are ongoing to notify the dead man’s next of kin. A post-mortem examination is due to take place.  

Just over an hour later, at 9:44 pm an unnamed 16-year-old boy was found dead on Halbutt Street in Dagenham. A woman, 50, has been arrested and charged with murder. 

Victim 138 was Dmytro Balaban, 28, who was also killed in Brent last Saturday. Volodymyr Hololvatskyi, 23, from Neasden was arrested by police in the early hours.

Hololvatskyi was charged with murder and was due to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.

It was a bloody night in London last Saturday, with two other violent incidents taking place, including one killing.

A 19-year-old man was stabbed and sprayed with a ‘noxious substance’ in an acid attack outside a McDonald’s on Friday evening.

The victim was rushed to hospital after being attacked on New Road in Gravesend, Kent, after 11pm last night. He remains in a serious but stable condition. 

An 18-year-old teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is in custody.
