Deuxmoi’s novel is basically one huge blind item for gossip fiends

The new Deuxmoi novel, Anon Pls., reads more like a memoir than a novel and gossip lovers are going to have a field day mining all the A-list Easter eggs hidden within the pages.

DailyMail.com chatted exclusively with the anonymous woman behind the ultra popular Instagram gossip handle about her new book and what it’s like behind the scenes of the most hated and loved social media account in Hollywood. 

While Anon Pls. begins with a clear disclaimer that the ‘story is obvi a work of fiction’, Deuxmoi herself admits that it is ‘heavily’ inspired by real life. ‘It can be pretty juicy if you like, pick up on certain things,’ Deuxmoi said. 

The book follows a main character who abandons her job in New York City high fashion to run an Instagram handle that shares completely unverified blind items about celebrities under a veil of anonymity. Sound familiar? 

Names of characters and celebrities are changed but they are based on real people and the fictitious handle is literally called Deuxmoi in the book. 

The story of how the real-life Deuxmoi came to be and how the book version came to be are nearly identical. ‘It’s pretty exact,’ Deuxmoi revealed during a recent phone call. 

Some of the characters are mash-ups of different celebrities. For instance, one celebrity in the book is based on a model who is ‘one half of a famous couple’ combined with a famous TikTok star.

‘It is heavily inspired by my real life,’ Deuxmoi revealed during a recent phone call. ‘Each character, almost every character I will say, is inspired by [real] celebrities and real people in my life.’

The story is peppered with social media posts and DMs about celebrities that will look mighty familiar to followers of the real Deuxmoi, and for good reason: the author pulled the best real-life tips from the past few years. 

‘I feel like people want to know stuff about celebrities,’ she said. ‘If you missed anything on the account, like in the past couple of years, it’s in the book.’

The story has a very ripped-from-the-headlines feel to it with some of the biggest gossip headlines from the last year or so pulled together as a connective thread for the main character’s personal story arc.

DailyMail itself even pops up in several chapters (chapter 8, chapter 11, chapter 17 and chapter 23 … but who’s counting?)

‘Guys, just a heads-up. . . While this book definitely draws inspo from events in my actual life, this story is obvi a work of fiction. Any mention to real people (celebs or normies), events, or establishments are intended only to give the book a sense of authenticity—and FUN. Everything else—characters, dialogue, incidents—I totally made up,’ reads the disclaimer at the start of the novel. 

The author’s approach towards fact and fiction is the same for her novel that is for her Instagram handle, which at present has 1.7M followers, in that she doesn’t want to be responsible for deciphering either.

‘I don’t want to be entangled in anything litigious with celebrities. It’s not my intention at all,’ she said, adding: ‘I’ve taken responsibility as the account has grown, and there are definitely certain things I won’t post about.’

‘I never am afraid to admit that I’m wrong,’ she said and noted that she often tries to ‘debunk’ celebrity rumors on her page.

In just shy of two years, Deuxmoi has grown to hold an outsized amount of power in Hollywood, pulling the levers of the celebrity rumor mill whether she intended it to or not. There is even a Deuxmoi one-hour drama in the works with HBO Max. 

The woman behind the account is emphatic that Deuxmoi is not news, not journalism and most certainly not Reddit. 

Ironically, a Reddit rumor briefly floated around that the HBO deal was dead in the water and when asked, Deuxmoi was incensed that anything from Reddit would be taken seriously. 

‘If something’s wrong, I’ll post it’s wrong. If something is misreported, I’ll post that as misreported. I don’t try to fabricate things. I don’t try to post misinformation. Reddit does that on purpose. People will knowingly type out their little paragraphs knowing they don’t know what the f**k they’re talking about,’ she said.

Love it or hate it, (and a lot of people hate it), Deuxmoi’s popularity cannot be understated. Kim Kardashian even posted a copy of Anon Pls. on her Instagram Story this weekend.

‘There’s a lot of people that enjoy it and a lot of people that don’t take it seriously. And there’s a lot of people that are able to read the disclaimers, read what I say, and take everything you know with a grain of salt,’ Deuxmoi said of the response to her page.

‘People are going to say what they want to say and you can’t stop the Internet,’ she added. ‘You know what I mean?’ 

Can’t stop the internet indeed; Deuxmoi is proof positive of that.
