‘Devious’ sister, 45, jailed for pretending to be sibling

Pauline House, 45, from Tonyrefail, had 33 previous convictions, mostly for dishonesty, and took over her sister’s identity to hide her past

A ‘dishonest and cruelly devious’ who pretended to be her younger sister to dodge £1,600 in parking fines and land two jobs has been jailed for a year.

Pauline Fay House, 45, from Tonyrefail, had 33 previous convictions, mostly for dishonesty, and took over her sister’s identity to hide her past.

She managed to get a job at McDonalds and then with a care firm, using the name of her younger sister Paula, 42.

House successfully applied for a ‘replacement’ driving licence and chalked up a £600 fine for driving with defective tyres, convictions that went against the name of her sister.

The 45-year-old also ran up £1,600 worth of parking fines, again in her law abiding sibling’s name.

However her lies caught up with her when she was prosecuted in her sister’s name for allowing her son to drive without a licence.

She attended Haverfordwest magistrates’ court as Paula House on the very same day bailiffs attended Paula’s house and demanded payment for things she knew nothing about.

House admitted two counts of fraud and making false statements, and perverting the course of justice.

Stephen Rees, defending, said she was immature and of low intelligence.

She was jailed for one year after turning up to Swansea Crown Court while still pretending to be her sister.

Judge Paul Thomas said: ‘By pretending to be your sister you obtained jobs you were not qualified for, driven as if you had a full licence despite never passing a test and avoided the punishments.

‘You are dishonest and cruelly devious.’
