The three questions that reveal that you are NOT a narcissist

  1. Do you feel like your emotions are genuine?
  2. Do you think that every person in the world has equal inherent worth?
  3. Do you love yourself?

In the video, which has so far been viewed more than 2.5 million times, Jacob speaks to camera in a black T-shirt and sunglasses – as he does for all his posts.

He begins: ‘I’m a diagnosed narcissist and if you do any one of these three things then you are not a narcissist.

‘One, do you feel like your emotions are genuine?

‘Because for me, whether it comes to a funeral, or comes to my friend going through a break-up or it comes to me being happy for somebody’s achievement, I’m faking emotions all the time because I know it is what’s expected of me.

‘Narcissists don’t have those normal emotional reactions, we have to emulate them half the time.’

Jacob continues: ‘Two, do you think that every person in the world has equal inherent worth? Narcissists think hierarchically.

‘It is inconceivable to us that two people can have inherently the same amount of worth.

‘For me, there’s always going to be a better person and a person below.’

And Jacob was flooded with praise from other social media users who thanked him for sharing the insight

Sharing the final tell-tale sign, he said: ‘Three, do you love yourself?

‘A lot of people think narcissists love themselves.

‘No, we think we’re better than everybody else.

‘We might love how we look, we might love our intelligence, but my internal monologue is a constant stream of “you’re so stupid, why did you do that, you’re better than all these other people, how could you be so stupid.”

‘There’s no self-love, there’s no self compassion there, it’s just grandiosity.’

Jacob was previously diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder and traits of borderline personality disorder.

He uploaded the clip alongside a caption that read: ‘Hope this one isn’t too controversial.’

And he was flooded with praise from other social media users who thanked him for sharing the insight.

One wrote: ‘Wow, what a vulnerable platform!

‘Thanks for putting this out there!’

Another said: ‘You are so helpful, thank you.’

And a third commented: ‘Thanks for sharing your experience. Interested to learn more about this misunderstood disorder.’
