Dieter Brummer discussed his ‘chaotic and hectic’ experience of fame in his final unseen interview – after the actor’s tragic suicide at age 45

Dieter Brummer shared details of his difficult experience with fame in his final interview. 

In the clip, which was shot in 2018 and aired on Channel Seven’s The Fame Game special on Sunday night, the actor, who died by suicide in 2021, says he sought a break from the spotlight to live an ordinary life. 

‘Yes. Yes. It can be very fickle. You’re hot one moment and then you’re not the next. You’d have to just deal with it in any way you can,’ Dieter said of fame.

‘So, I did my best. It was pretty full on. Screaming girls at appearances. It was all pretty chaotic and hectic’, he went on. 

‘I think I’d experienced so much fame during those years on Home and Away that I did just want to take a break from it and literally try and experience a life as Joe Bloggs and live like normal people do.’

Elsewhere in the clip, the former actor said he loved his new career of high rise window washing.

‘Everyone loves to refer to me as a window cleaner. Whereas I refer to myself as an industrial rope access technician, thank you,’ he said.

The former teen heartthrob was found dead at a home in Sydney’s Glenhaven on July 24, 2021. He is believed to have died by suicide. 

The star, who had in recent years switched professions to window washing, was 45.

Following the news of his passing, Brummer’s family released a statement saying their world would ‘never be the same’. 

‘We lost our handsome, talented, funny, complicated and beloved Dieter on Saturday morning. He has left a massive hole in our lives,’ they said.

Brummer was best known for playing Shane Parrish in Home And Away, and was famously involved in a romantic storyline with Melissa George in the nineties.
