Dillian Whyte has suffered a major setback in his bid to force Tyson Fury to accept him as the next challenger for his world heavyweight title.
Whyte and his promoter Eddie Hearn were confident of the WBC confirming the Bodysnatcher as Fury’s mandatory opponent and were planning a huge stadium fight in London in the spring.
But that organisation declined to make that decision at their annual convention in Mexico City on Tuesday night.

The WBC refused to name Whyte as Tyson Fury’s mandatory challenger at their convention
Instead they are insisting on Whyte’s legal action going to arbitration, thereby prolonging still further his protracted campaign for a title shot.
Fury now plans an interim fight in the New Year, perhaps a homecoming event against a lesser opponent after his epic trilogy victory over Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas, to be followed by a megafight for the undisputed heavyweight championship next summer.
His UK promoter Frank Warren greeted the WBC decision by saying: ‘Tyson has earned the right to do as he chooses now. ‘
Whyte, who holds an interim version of the WBC title, still finds himself down the queue.
