‘I’m a housewife, not a conniving woman’: Disgraced Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn’s wife in tearful plea for her husband’s freedom
Fallen Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn’s wife has issued a tearful plea to bring her husband home.
Carole Ghosn, 52, has not seen or spoken to her husband since prosecutors stormed their apartment in Japan in the early hours of April 4 and arrested him on charges of misconduct involving his running of Nissan car company.
The mother-of-three, who has also been questioned over the allegations, said she feared for her 65-year-old husband’s health as he remained in detention awaiting trial in Tokyo.
She said: ‘I want my husband back. I want him with me. I know he is innocent,’ Mrs Ghosn told the BBC.’

Mrs Ghosn says that she is also being portrayed as a guilty party and ‘dragged into the story’ to weaken her husband’s plea.

She added: ‘I’m a housewife who raised three children, and they’re making me sound like this conniving woman.’
Although he has since been freed on bail ahead of his trial, his second wife claims that the conditions of his release prevent him from speaking to her.
Ghosn, 65, was re-arrested in April, while already out on bail, over allegations of financial misconduct during his time running car maker Nissan.
While Mrs Ghosn has fled to the US following the arrest, her husband of three years must live in a court-appointed residence in Japan where he is monitored by cameras around the clock.
The Beirut-born housewife said: ‘I’d like President Trump to speak to [Japan’s] Prime Minister Abe about fair trial conditions and to let me speak to my husband.’

Speaking to the BBC Mrs Ghosn recalls the night her husband was detained for a second time in April, taken from their home by 20 Tokyo Police at 5.15 in the morning.
She said: ‘I think they wanted to intimidate and humiliate us.’
Mrs Ghosn claims she was followed to the shower and ‘handed a towel’ by one of the police.
She is now campaigning for her husband’s case to be raised with Japan’s President Shinzo Abe at a G20 world leaders summit in Tokyo later this month.
