A disgraced soldier kicked out of the army for offensive behaviour has been caught wearing a medal that was stripped from him.

Robin Turner was awarded the Commendation for Distinguished Service decoration but was axed from the force in 2013 before it was formally presented to him.

The consultant was caught wearing it on Anzac Day this year at a lunch sponsored by his Gold Coast property business to raise money fallen Afghanistan war veterans.

When asked why he continued to wear the medal, Turner claimed he did not know it had been stripped from him.

‘As far as I was aware, I was entitled to wear it,’ he told The Herald Sun.

He added: ‘I fully respect and understand the significance and responsibility that goes with that sort of stuff’ and said he would check if he was allowed to wear it.

The Army did not reveal exactly why Turner was kicked out, citing ‘security reasons’.

A Defence spokesman only said it had ‘terminated the service of members in relation to allegations of unacceptable behaviour.’ 

It is a criminal offence for a person to wear a service ­decoration which has not been conferred to them. The maximum penalty is six months is jail. 

Turner’s lawyer said he was invited to two medal presentation ceremonies but declined to attend.
