Disney’s new online streaming service Disney+ is projected to boast 82million subscribers globally by 2024, according to a new study. 

Disney’s upcoming online video subscription service, which will include their catalog of films, will launch of November 12 this year and it’s already predicted to be tough competition for Netflix and Amazon Prime. 

Disneyplus+ is expected to rake in $74billion in revenue and 82million subscriptions by 2024, according to a forecast from Digital TV Research. 

A big reason for that grab will be the slight decline of video streaming giant Netflix.

‘Netflix’s dominance of global SVOD (subscription video on demand) is falling, although the company will add 79million subscriptions between 2018 and 2024 to take its total to 219 milllion,’ Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. 

‘This comes despite the onslaught from new global players,’ he added on the September 2019 report. 

By 2024 Amazon Prime will rank in second place, behind Netflix, with 127million subscribers and Apple reaching 13million. 

When it comes to raking in revenue, Disney is expected to make more money than Amazon, according to the forecast.  Disney+ will cost $7 a month of $70 a year versus Amazon Prime’s $13 a month, $119 a year cost. 

Netfix’s revenue with more than double from $15billion in 2018 to $35billion in 2024 and subscriptions will climb by 57 percent.

As for subscriptions – Netflix will account for 23 percent of global SVOD suscribers, Amazon Prime for 13 percent, Disney+ for 8 percent and Apple for 1 percent.

‘There four companies will control 45 percent of the global total. This eaves a substantial market for others, including 30 percent of global subscriptions in China where none of the four global players will operate,’ the report said. 

Global video on demand subscriptions are expected to nearly double in the coming years. 

‘The number of gross SVOD subscriptions will increase by 91 percent, or 462 million, between 2018 and 2024 to reach 970 million,’ the firm said. 

In 2019 alone the number of SVOD subscriptions increased by 124million.
