  • After arriving in Darwin from Adelaide AFP officers boarded the Jetstar flight
  • Vision captured by a passenger shows a scuffle before the man was arrested
  • The man has since been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer

A man accused of smoking and disturbing a Jetstar flight has been filmed allegedly attacking a police officer on board.

The flight from Darwin to Adelaide on Sunday led to the 54-year-old from Mawson Lakes, Adelaide being taken from the plane by Australian Federal Police officers before being charged with multiple offences.

In footage captured by another passenger, the man with long blonde hair came face-to-face with police who were called to meet the flight at Adelaide Airport.

The officer raises his hand in front of the man, who is not wearing a mask, hoping to get the disgruntled passenger to stand back.

A scuffle ensues but the vision is obscured by seats at the front of the plane, and an officer can be seen using his baton during the fight.

The police officer can be heard saying ‘he’s trying to bite’ as two passengers rush ahead to help with the altercation.

‘Can you take out his legs,’ the officer asks one passenger, who is on hand to lift the man in an attempt to stop the alleged brawl.

‘Lean up on your left knee,’ one officer says as the man is cuffed and led out of the plane.

The man who captured the video told 9News the passenger allegedly acted aggressively towards others and smoked in the bathrooms.

‘He smelt like smoke because he had a few sneaky cigarettes in the toilets of the plane,’ he said.

‘He spoke to a few of the passengers in an aggressive way and said “I deserve to be off first, I’m number one in this town”, stuff like that.

‘It’s not very nice when you have kids on there and a few other people were pretty distraught and upset’.

Passengers could be heard in the vision yelling ‘there are kids on the plane’ and applause erupted when he was finally taken off board.

The alleged attacker was arrested and charged with smoking in an aircraft, disorderly behaviour, disobeying flight crew, two counts of assaulting police and resisting police.

The man was bailed and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on November 26.
