Diver in his 20s dies after being struck by a speedboat off Melbourne’s coast – despite the best efforts of paramedics who tried to revive him at a nearby pier

  • They were picked up by a boat, who called emergency services about 1pm 
  • His diving partner was also checked over but did not require medical treatment 

A diver has died after he was struck down by a speed boat in Melbourne waters.  

Paramedics responded to reports two divers in their 20s had been hit off the pier in between Frankston and Mornington, in Melbourne’s south-east.  

They were picked up by another boat, who called emergency services about 1pm on Sunday.

One of the men required CPR and was carried onto Frankston Pier as paramedics tried to revive him.

His diving partner was also checked over but did not require medical treatment.

Police are currently searching for the driver of the boat involved in the collision after it did not stop to render assistance.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows the identity of the driver of the boat to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
