The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Adelaide airport.

A Qantas spokeswoman said that nothing could be done to save the life of the passenger.

‘Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board,’ the spokeswoman told News.com.au.

‘But unfortunately the passenger has passed away.’

A witness said the incident first broke out at about 3am, as cabin crew made an announcement over the speakers asking if there were any doctors on board.

Two medically-trained passengers came forward and began applying aid to the dying passenger with the assistance of a ‘very vocal’ cabin crew, the witness said.

It was at about 4am that the captain announced the flight’s diversion to Adelaide.

The witness further noted that when police came on board after landing they didn’t rush the patient off the plane, according to a witness.
