Mr Pedre told My Domaine he avoids eating wheat and gluten, fried and spicy foods.

He explained how gluten ‘attracts water and is a binder,’ and for most women, leads to constipation and poor digestion.

According to Mr Pedre, fried foods are a ‘double-whammy’ as they’re fried in flour which contains gluten.

He also avoids ‘excessively spicy foods’ such as habanero peppers and curries as they can irritate the lining of the gut.

Mr Pedre also suggested choosing Greek food when eating out, as menus often contain grilled vegetables, salads and grilled or baked meats, which are far easier to digest.

Dr Li Yan, a digestive wellness expert at Procter and Gamble, previously told FEMAIL just how important gut health is.

‘Your gut is hugely important for food digestion, absorption and ridding the body of waste,’ she said.

Dr Yan also revealed some of the tell-tale signs of poor gut health, including constipation.

‘Everyone’s bowels are unique to them,’ she said. ‘However, a bowel movement shouldn’t take an excessive amount of time and you shouldn’t have to strain.

‘Constipation can cause a build up of waste material and toxins in your system. Straining, hard or painful to pass stools, or not feeling ”empty” after a bowel movement are all signs of constipation.’

Dr Yan recommended increasing your fibre intake through wholegrain foods, fruits and vegetables.

‘Bad breath can mean an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in your gut,’ Dr Yan added. ‘Eating a healthy diet and getting enough fibre in your diet are good ways to help cleanse your insides and support gut health.’
