Does Andres Iniesta have the best major trophy haul of any player?

Barcelona have already suffered one big loss at the very end of this campaign after their unbeaten La Liga run perished in their penultimate game following a 5-4 loss at Levante.

They will suffer another, even if they defeat Real Sociedad on Saturday to complete a season where they wrestled the Spanish title off Real Madrid with relative ease.

The match will mark the final appearance of Andres Iniesta in a Barcelona shirt, the club he has been at since he was a boy, following the captain’s tearful announcement in April that he would depart the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Iniesta is ranked as one of the great modern players - but is that reflected in his trophies?

Iniesta is ranked as one of the great modern players – but is that reflected in his trophies?

The 34-year-old joined Barca’s academy in 1996 and has not looked back since, amassing 674 appearances since his first-team debut in 2002.

From being a fresh faced kid featuring alongside the likes of Frank de Boer and Patrick Kluivert to the midfield stalwart helping Barca become a dominant force in Europe along with stars like Lionel Messi, Iniesta has seen it all during his 16 years in the first team.

By all, we mean trophies. The Spanish international has amassed quite a collection of winners’ medals over the years that the majority of teams would settle for in their entire existence.

However, how does he stack up against his peers? Here Sportsmail looks at Iniesta’s major team honours to see if his trophy collection can be surpassed by any active player.

Top 10 – league titles

This list only considers the top five leagues in Europe which are Spain, Germany, England Italy and France – as ranked by UEFA. Not even discounting the Dutch league title can stop Arjen Robben from topping the pile though, thanks to his success in England, Spain and most notably Germany.

Notably, this list is dominated by Paris Saint-Germain players who have helped the French club sweep up the majority of domestic cups recently. France, as well as England, have an advantage here of being the only countries who have a League Cup as well as an FA Cup equivalent within the top five leagues.

Top 10 – international trophies

Due to the vast range of international competitiveness from across the world, this list has a cut-off point of the World Cup and continental competitions that feature a World Cup winner – thus the European Championship and the Copa America.

Also omitted is the international form of the Community Shield in the Confederations Cup, as well as Club World Cups. As a result you have Spain’s three straight tournament wins rivaled only by players from Chile’s double Copa America winning sides.

Three trophies = Iker Casillas, Raul Albiol, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Ramos, David Silva, Pepe Reina

Two trophies = David Villa, Santi Cazorla, Gerard Pique, Juan Mata, Sergio Busquets, Pedro, Fernando Llorente, Javi Martinez, Jesus Navas, Alexis Sanchez, Claudio Bravo, Arturo Vidal, Gary Medel, Eugenio Mena, Mauricio Isla, Francisco Silva, Jose Fuenzalida, Mauricio Pinilla, Eduardo Vargas, Jean Beausejour, Gonzalo Jara, Charles Aranguiz, Marcelo Diaz, Johnny Herrera
