More than 1.3 million New South Wales motorists are missing out on a green slip refund they’re entitled to of up to $120, according to new government figures.
While 2.32 million motorists have already claimed $136 million worth of refunds on their 2017 green slip, around $50 million worth remains unclaimed for registered private vehicle owners.
It’s part of the government’s reform of its compulsory third party (CTP) insurance scheme to reduce the cost of CTP green slips and better support people injured on the state’s roads.
A legal requirement for all motor vehicles registered in NSW, a green slip is is an insurance policy that provides compensation for those killed or injured in an accident.

Finance Minister Victor Dominello recently extended the deadline to claim a refund by nine months, from September 30 until June 30 next year.
The top 10 Sydney suburbs for unclaimed refunds were also recently revealed, all were which are located in the city’s west and south-west.
Liverpool in Sydney’s south-west tops the list with $252,000 owed to 2,200 motorists.

Around 1600 Leumeah motorists are owed a combined $177,000, while Camden was third with $187,000 owed to 1,500.
Westmead, Cabramatta, Baulkham Hills, Kellyville were also on the list while Bossley Park, Cecil Hills and Blacktown rounded out the top 10.

‘There are so many families and households who could benefit from these refunds, which is why we are extending the deadline,’ Mr Dominello said.
‘The new CTP scheme is a triple win for motorists who receive a cheaper Green Slip, a partial refund on what they paid last year and faster benefits should they be injured on the road.’
Refunds range between $10 and $120, depending on the type and location of your vehicle.

‘The amount you’re refunded will depend on when you bought your Green Slip in the 12 months before the new scheme started on 1 December 2017.’
