Karl Stefanovic was booted off the Today show last week, with rumours rife that Brenton Ragless could replace him as co-host of the show. 

And while sharing a Christmas tribute to the crew at the Today show, Brenton’s post featured a very telling hint that he’s already nabbed the gig.

Taking to Instagram last week, the 42-year-old wrote: ‘Hats off to the floor and production crew @thetodayshow’.

‘You guys are brilliant and bring such a great level of energy and enthusiasm for 5am! 

‘Well done and have a great Christmas!’ he concluded.

Taking to the comment section, a cameraman penned: ‘Good times mate, see you again soon,’ revealing that Brenton would shortly make a return to the Today show.

Nine confirmed an announcement on the new line-up of the Today show would be made ‘in the coming weeks’.

Reports have widely suggested the father-of-two, will replace Karl, 44, who was recently axed from the Nine morning show. 

In fact, with Adelaide-based Brenton at the helm, Today’s ratings among female viewers spike by up to 37 per cent, compared to Karl’s figures in November.

On Wednesday, the program actually beat Channel Seven’s Sunrise in the female demographic, in the all important five-city metro market.

Meanwhile, entertainment journalist Peter Ford reported on the TV Blackbox podcast this week that Brenton has formally accepted an offer to replace Karl.

Ford said: ‘As of the time of recording this podcast, Brenton Ragless is at Nine at the moment.

‘You are clearly there to do something or sign something [late in the afternoon]. He’s got the job, there’s no question about that.

‘Now [it’s a question of] whether he’s just going to continue on, because he’s currently filling in, or whether he’s going to need time to get his act together with his family in Adelaide.’
