A Queensland dog owner has been slammed after a pooch was left inside a car on a 30C day while she dined at a pet-friendly cafe.

Sophia Jones was at a Maroochydore shopping centre on Wednesday when she noticed the poor pooch inside a black car with the windows only cracked a few centimetres.

Ms Jones said the animal was in direct sunlight so she called the RSPCA.

Ms Jones said the animal was in direct sunlight so she called the RSPCA

‘This morning, a woman at Maroochydore left her dog in her black car in direct sunlight for 20 minutes while she waited in an air-conditioned cafe for her takeaway,’ she said.

‘That is enough time to kill the dog.’

‘The worst part about her logic: the cafe was a pet-friendly cafe and had a water station outside in the shade.’

The Bureau of Meteorology logged a temperature of approximately 30C around the time the dog was left in the car.

Ms Jones said it would have been ’10C hotter’ inside the vehicle.

It is not a specific offence to leave a dog in a car in Queensland.
