Dogs and cats are notoriously the enemies of the animal kingdom but for this playful pair all is not what it seems.

Despite baring his teeth and cramming his feline friend’s head in his mouth, Ski the golden retriever is not trying to eat his tiny companion.

The initially dark video shows Ski trying to ‘eat’ one-year-old kitten Euclides but he quickly relents and offers a soggy apology when he realises he might have taken things too far.

Instead of the tragic ending you might have expected the situation quickly turns playful and the pairs sweet nature becomes apparent.

Ferociously attacking the kitten, it seems as though there is no hope for one-year-old Euclides – until Ski starts apologising by showering him with licks of affection.

All hope seems lost for the tiny kitten as his head completely disappears into the canine’s mouth but luckily for Euclides all is not as it seems

Despite the massive size difference their owner revealed that he actually has to occasionally protect Euclides from Ski and the fighting is ‘completely harmless.’

This footage was captured by their owner, Rafael Dazcal, at their home in Modiine, Israel.

Rafael, 37, said: “They play fight all the time – to the point where Ski ‘eats’ Euclides sometimes.

“It seems this is natural behaviour, but Ski is the sweetest, most gentle animal I know.

“Some people I have shown the video to show real concern, but if they know anything about Golden Retrievers they would know it was completely harmless.’
