Don Jr. and Robert Mueller pictured just yards away from each other at D.C. airport

Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Donald Trump Jr. got nearly close enough to read each other’s boarding passes at a Washington, D.C. airport on Friday.

A bizarre culture-clash photo was snapped by a Politico source. The president’s eldest son confirmed he was in the photo after DailyMail.com showed it to him.

‘That was me,’ he said, adding that he ‘didn’t notice’ the presence of the prosecutor who has spent more than a year dissecting his family’s personal and professional life.

Mueller, too, was blind to the coincidence.

His spokesman told The Washington Post that ‘[I]f it’s accurate that the other person in the photo was Donald Trump Jr., Mr. Mueller was not aware of him and had no interaction with him.’

Special Counsel Robert Mueller (left, with newspaper) and Donald Trump Jr. (top right in baseball cap) nearly had a close encounter Friday morning at Washington Reagan National Airport

The picture shows the special counsel seated in a jacket and open-necked shirt, reading a newspaper.

Don Jr. looked to be about 10 yards behind him, in line to board an American Airlines flight from Washington Reagan National Airport to Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.

Wearing a teal polo shirt, blue jeans and a camouflage hat, he was talking on the phone while hanging on to a rollaboard suitcase.

A U.S. Secret Service agent stood behind him, scanning the gate area with sunglasses perched atop his head.

The pair were photographed separately on their plane, flying in coach seats.

It’s unlikely Mueller was waiting to board the same flight.

Gate 35X at Reagan Airport is slated for renovation and replacement because of its infamy as a sardine-can approach to crowd control.

Meant as a common boarding area for a few hundred small jets and turboprops every day, the upstairs waiting area is typically a dreaded choke point.

Only when a flight is called for boarding are its passengers permitted to take a single escalator to a floor below, where they scan their tickets at one of a handful of exit doors.

From there they board a bus to a waiting plane on the tarmac’s outskirts.

The photograph was taken downstairs, near exit door #5. Don Jr. was in line for his departure already. It’s unclear why Mueller was seated.
