Donald and Melania Trump land back in DC following long weekend at G7

Donald and Melania Trump have returned to Washington following their weekend at the G7 summit in France.

The president and first lady looked tired from the trans-Atlantic journey as they stepped off Marine One on the White House lawn on Monday night.

Despite the pitch-black skies, Melania wore a pair of wide-rimmed sunglasses as she deplaned.

Trump fought off the jet lag long enough to take a shot at one of his favorite adversaries on Twitter.

‘Just returned to Washington from France and the very successful G-7, only to find that the Fake News is still trying to perpetuate the phony story that I wanted to use Nuclear weapons to blow up hurricanes before they reach shore,’ he tweeted.

‘This is so ridiculous, never happened!’

The Commander-in-Chief spent the weekend with his Group of Seven counterparts in Biarritz, France, discussing everything from internet law to ISIS.

While Trump was away, Axios published a report claiming that he had spoken with several Homeland Security and national security officials about using nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes from hitting the US.

Trump decried the report and said it was ‘just more FAKE NEWS!’.

The president’s denial came just as he was meeting with German Chancellor Angel Merkel and pressuring her to take back ISIS fighters who left Europe for the Middle East.

Other highlights from the busy summit included meeting with French President Emanuel Macron to negotiate a digital tax on internet companies, discussing whether Russian President Vladimir Putin should be invited to next year’s event and reportedly skipping out on a meeting on climate change.

Next year Trump hopes to host the summit at his golf resort in Florida.

During a press conference on Monday, he boasted that Trump National Doral Miami Golf Resort has ‘a series of magnificent buildings. We call them bungalows. They each hold from 50 to 70 very luxurious rooms with magnificent views.’

‘We have incredible conference rooms, incredible restaurants. It’s like, it’s like such a natural,’ he said.

Trump bragged that the property includes ‘many hundreds of acres so that in terms of parking, in terms of all of the things that you need [it’s] among the biggest in Florida, and the best.’

Asked point-blank if he was trying to monetize the presidency, he shot back: ‘No, not at all.’

The 643-room resort saw a 69 percent slide in revenues during 2017, according to The Washington Post, one of the newspapers Trump most loves to hate.

The president said officials would soon release information to the public about his team’s search for a G7 venue, which involved a dozen possible locations. He said representatives from the US military and Secret Service were part of the delegation.

Trump said Putin would ‘certainly’ receive an invite to the next summit,  but wondered whether such a ‘proud person’ would attend unless as an equal partner of a restored G8 group.

Russia was part of the group before getting kicked out following its invasion of Crimea.

‘I don’t know that he’d accept. Those are tough circumstances,’ Trump said. ‘He was a part of G8,  and all of a sudden he’s not out or he’s not in. So I think … actually that’s a pretty tough thing for him.’
