President Donald Trump took parting shots at Sen. Elizabeth Warren Friday following her decision this week to suspend her presidential campaign – attributing her loss to being ‘mean.’

Trump got asked whether sexism were part of what prevented Warren from succeeding, after a series of female presidential candidates have failed to advance.

‘No, I think lack of talent was her problem. She had a tremendous lack of talent,’ Trump said, before paying her a compliment. ‘She was a good debater,’ he said.

‘She destroyed Mike Bloomberg very quickly, like it was nothing,’ Trump said, having himself repeatedly attacked Bloomberg in public comments and online.

‘That was easy for her. But people don’t like her. She’s a very mean person, and people don’t like her. People don’t want that. They like a person like me, that’s not mean,’ Trump said.

Trump spoke after Warren’s dramatic departure left the Democratic primary fight as a test mostly between two men in their 70s, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Some of Warren’s supporters – she had built a national campaign and rolled out a series of policy proposals – shared their dejection online amid the sudden change in the race. Her campaign manager, Roger Lau, had written before Warren’s exit that ‘it’s important that she has the time and space to consider what comes next.’

Warren lamented as she withdrew from the race about the effect on all the young women she met as she traveled the country. She made taking thousands of selfie photos a staple of her campaign appearances.

‘One of the hardest parts of this is … all those little girls who are going to have to wait four more years,’ Warren said.

Trump was pointing to Warren’s performance at the Las Vegas debate, where Warren, an economic populist, unleashed withering criticism of the billionaire Bloomberg. She brought up some past comments about women and his refusal to release women who alleged a hostile work environment at his firm from non-disclosure agreements.
