Donald Trump returns to golf after Christmas holiday – and a morning of angry tweets

Donald Trump returned to the golf course on Thursday for a post-Christmas game, following a morning of angry tweets about Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the impeachment process.

The president, in a white shirt, gave supporters his signature thumbs up sign as his motorcade sped by them in West Palm Beach, less than a mile away from his Mar-a-Lago estate.

He had a big smile on his face as The Beast, as the presidential limo is known, drove by.

Supporters waved American flags and Trump 2020 signs at him. A few brought their own handmade signs reading ‘Democrats Un-Hinged,’ ‘Keep America Great,’ and ‘Trump Is Coming 2020’. One man held a life-sized cardboard cutout of the president while another held a toilet cover with the names of some media outlets printed on it.

The president spent just over four hours at his Trump International West Palm Beach Golf Club on Thursday after he spent the morning sending out a series of angry tweets and retweets, most of which were focused on the impeachment process.

He did sent out a tweet of a link to a CNBC article about the performance of the stock market under his presidency: ‘Trump stock market rally is far outpacing past US presidents.’

The president has made the strong U.S. economy a central argument to his 2020 re-election campaign.

Trump spent Christmas Day at this Mar-a-Lago estate, where he’ll be through the New Year, where he was spotted having dinner Wednesday night. His golf club was closed on Christmas Day.

But Trump – throughout his holiday at the Winter White House – has repeatedly expressed his frustration that Pelosi hasn’t transmitted the impeachment articles as his Senate trial – where he’s expected to be acquitted in the GOP controlled chamber – cannot begin until they arrive.

‘The Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats said they wanted to RUSH everything through to the Senate because ‘President Trump is a threat to National Security’ (they are vicious, will say anything!), but now they don’t want to go fast anymore, they want to go very slowly. Liars!,’ he tweeted on Thursday morning.

And he took Pelosi to task personally, hitting her over her San Francisco district and suggesting a Democrat should primary the speaker.

‘Nancy Pelosi’s District in California has rapidly become one of the worst anywhere in the U.S. when it come to the homeless & crime. It has gotten so bad, so fast – she has lost total control and, along with her equally incompetent governor, Gavin Newsom, it is a very sad sight!,’ he wrote on Twitter.

‘Crazy Nancy should clean up her filthy dirty District & help the homeless there. A primary for N?,’ he added.

Pelosi’s congressional district is heavily liberal and Republicans have very little chance of winning it. A primary opponent would be needed to remove her from office.

She has a challenger this year – Democratic socialist Shahid Buttar. But his campaign is considered a long shot against the powerful speaker.

California has a ‘jungle’ primary system where the top two contenders go to the general election regardless of their party. In 2018, Pelosi won re-election with 87 per cent of the vote.

Republicans had accused Pelosi of rushing the impeachment process through the House. She announced the official investigation in September and pushed her lawmakers to have the investigation done and a vote held before the end of the year.

But the process has slowed considerably now that Pelosi has held on to the articles and she has given no indication when she’ll send them over. She has said she wants to know the kind of process the Senate is going to use in the trial first.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he wants to hold the trial in January but he cannot start proceedings until the speaker transmits the articles.

Trump also complained the impeachment process has made it hard for him to govern.

‘Despite all of the great success that our Country has had over the last 3 years, it makes it much more difficult to deal with foreign leaders (and others) when I am having to constantly defend myself against the Do Nothing Democrats & their bogus Impeachment Scam. Bad for USA!,’ he tweeted.

The president returned to Twitter with a vengeance after noticeably slowing down on his social media action through the Christmas holiday.

Trump bemoaned about the impeachment process Wednesday night and Thursday morning in a series of tweets.

‘Why should Crazy Nancy Pelosi, just because she has a slight majority in the House, be allowed to Impeach the President of the United States? Got ZERO Republican votes, there was no crime, the call with Ukraine was perfect, with ‘no pressure,” he wrote Wednesday night.

‘She said it must be ‘bipartisan & overwhelming,’ but this Scam Impeachment was neither. Also, very unfair with no Due Process, proper representation, or witnesses. Now Pelosi is demanding everything the Republicans weren’t allowed to have in the House. Dems want to run majority Republican Senate. Hypocrites!,’ he added.

The president is spending his holiday at his Mar-a-Lago estate, where he had Christmas Eve dinner with the first lady and a random assortment of guests, including Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, Washington Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin, and Eddie Gallagher, the Navy Seal to whom Trump restored his rank.
