Donald Trump used White House as his ‘legal residence’ when he applied for a mail ballot in Florida

Donald Trump used the White House as his ‘legal residence’ when he applied for a mail ballot in Florida – and had to re-apply a month later claiming he lives in Mar-a-Lago instead

  • Trump first filed a voter registration form in September listing his address as 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
  • He filed a new one listing the address of Mar-a-Lago
  • Florida law requires voters to reside in the state
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

President Donald Trump tried to register to vote in his newly adopted state of Florida putting down 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as his address.

It was a move, or an error, that didn’t fly with Florida officials, who evidently got back to him. About a month after the initial filing, Trump registered again, this time using the address of his Mar-a-Lago club, according to voter registration documents.

The snafu comes as Trump has inveighed repeatedly against voter fraud and mail-in ballots, as some mostly Democratic-run states seek to expand mail-voting amid the coronavirus pandemic.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Trump listed 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as his address in a Florida voter application

The Washington Post obtained registration documents where Trump asserted his ‘legal residence’ as the White House, the building where he in fact spends most nights since he was inaugurated in 2017.

Trump announced he was giving up his New York residence last year, claiming he had been treated ‘very badly by the political leaders’ in the high-tax state.

He has since sparred with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio during the coronavirus crisis.

The decision created a potential legal headache, since under the terms where Trump turned the West Palm Beach mansion into a private club, he stated it would not be used as a residence and club members were limited on how many days per year they could live there.

Florida law requires voters to reside in the state.

The application is dated Sept. 27, 2019, when Trump announced the change of residency from his Trump Tower penthouse, which he maintains and has been a cite for protests in recent days following the killing of George Floyd.

He filed a new registration about a month later. Trump voted by mail in the state’s March primary, even as he blasts widespread mail voting as ripe for fraud. White House press secretary Kayeligh McEnany has also been revealed to have voted by mail in Florida.
