Donald Trump wanted ‘impressive’ Nancy Pelosi to IMPEACH George W. Bush

Donald Trump wanted ‘impressive’ Nancy Pelosi to IMPEACH George W. Bush over the Iraq war ‘lies’ and dismissed Bill Clinton’s impeachment as ‘nonsense’ in resurfaced 2008 interview

  • In a vintage interview, private citizen Donald Trump called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ‘impressive’ and said he ‘liked her a lot’
  • He goes on to say he wished she would have impeached Republican President George W. Bush over the ‘lies’ he told to get the U.S. into the Iraq War
  • Trump said that compared to the ‘nonsense’ that warranted President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, Bush deserved the dishonor

President Trump used to find House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ‘impressive’ though thought she should have impeached the last Republican president, George W. Bush, over his ‘lies’ that got the country into the Iraq War.

As the House of Representatives debated Trump’s own impeachment Wednesday, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer shared a clip on Twitter from an interview with private citizen Trump from October 15, 2008.

‘I think she’s a very impressive person. I like her a lot,’ Trump said of Pelosi, who became the first female House Speaker in January 2007. ‘But I was surprised that she didn’t do more in terms of Bush and going after Bush.’

In a throwback interview, then businessman Donald Trump tells CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Nancy Pelosi was ‘impressive,’ Republican George W. Bush should have been impeached and President Bill Clinton was impeached over nonsense

‘It just seemed like she was really going to look to impeach Bush and get him out of office, which personally I think would have been a wonderful thing,’ Trump continued.

Taken slightly aback, Blitzer asked if Trump meant that ‘impeaching him’ would be wonderful.

‘For the war. For the war,’ Trump responded. ‘Well he lied. He got us into the war with lies.’

Trump then brought up the last president – before him – to face impeachment, President Bill Clinton. During this era, several years before Trump drifted to the right politically and into Republican politics, he was friendly with the Clintons, even inviting them to his January 2005 wedding to Melania Trump.

‘Look at the trouble Bill Clinton got into with something that was totally unimportant and they tried to impeach him, which was nonsense,’ Trump said.

Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998 over lies to a grand jury about his affair with ex-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Anti-war Democrats had urged Pelosi to impeach Bush over the 2003 Iraq invastion, but she never took the bait.

The clip concludes with Trump hitting Bush again.

‘And then Bush got us into this terrible war with lies by lying by saying they had weapons of mass desturction, by saying all sorts of things that turned out not to be true,’ vintage Trump said.
