Donald Trump wrote a letter of complaint to then Prime Minister David Cameron that wind farms were spoiling the landscape in Scotland, where he owns an 18-hole golf course.

President Trump had already tried to air is concerns about the course, which is close to Aberdeen, to the then Scottish first minister Alex Salmond in 2012.

However the complaint was ignored by Mr Salmon and he decided to voice his issue with the prime minister instead.

Trump protested that Mr Salmond was ‘hell-bent on destroying Scotland’s pristine environment’, reports the Sunday Telegraph.

Meanwhile Trump was also publicly battling the proposal to build 11 turbines near his course as well as sending the private letter.

In his correspondence Trump, who has previously said he is of Scottish descent, opposed the construction of the turbines saying that residents are tired of paying higher taxes for them. 

During the letter he said: ‘Residents “don’t want thousands more of these ‘made in China’ turbines built all around Scotland’. 

The letter, which was obtained under a Freedom of Information act, came during an ongoing debate over the impact of wind farms.

It mirrored the opinions of those who had been campaigning against wind farms including Tory MPs.  

Campaigners believed that the Government were relying on tax payer funded wind turbines for energy generation in a bid to reduce reliance on other power sources.  

In reply to Trump’s letter Cameron wrote that the government had a long-term goal to remove subsidies for all forms of renewable energy but defended wind farm construction.
